CQUni research institute supports education and training in Vietnam

CQUniversity's Learning and Teaching Education Research Centre (LTERC) has been providing short courses at the Noosa Campus, for senior officials of the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam, and for senior staff in Vietnamese universities...

The short courses have been funded by the Asian Development Bank and are part of a major reform of  junior secondary education in Vietnam.

These three short courses were focused on curriculum development and research, textbook development and research in junior secondary science textbooks, and textbook development and research in junior secondary social sciences textbooks.

The courses have been managed by LTERC's senior research officer Dr Matt Eliot, and administrative assistant Tash Toon. Professor Mike Horsley, Dr Jo Dargusch and Dr Ray Land have provided the course planning and teaching.

Professor Horsley, the Head of Campus at Noosa, manages the Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing in partnership with the Australian Publishers Association and has been appointed to an Australian Curriculum Expert Reference Panel.

The short development and research short courses have resulted from a partnership between LTERC and its Vietnamese agent HANOITC (Hanoi Overseas Study and Training).

Doan Minh Trong, from HANOITC, accompanied the Ministry of Education and Training groups. He noted that "the partnership and successful courses have created strong ties between senior Vietnamese officials and CQUniversity".

On the basis of the success of these courses, the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam and the Asian Development Bank have invited (and shortlisted) LTERC to tender for two other research-focused short courses in 2013 and one in 2014.
