Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

PhD student on shortlist for Australia's premier essay prize 

Congratulations to CQUniversity PhD student Janene Carey from Armidale (NSW) who is on the shortlist for Australia's premier essay prize, the 2010 Calibre Prize.

The shortlisted essay is a chapter from Janene's creative non-fiction writing project and it's about people's experiences of caring for a family member with a terminal illness. Janene's PhD supervisor is Associate Professor Donna Brien.

The Australian Book Review recently announced that seven essays have been shortlisted for this year's Calibre Prize for an Outstanding Essay. Calibre is sponsored by Copyright Agency Limited's Cultural Fund. The winner will receive $10,000 and will be announced at the conclusion of a day-long symposium on the art of essay writing to be held at the National Library of Australia on Friday, April 30.

The Calibre Prize, created in 2007, has quickly established itself as Australia's major prize for an original essay, generating brilliant new essays and fresh insights into culture, society and the human condition.
