CQU's Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) Centre is now the base for Airlabs, a Brisbane-based air monitoring company.
According to the Gladstone Observer, Airlabs has set up an office in Gladstone to examine the effects local industry has on Gladstone air.
The Observer reports that Airlabs has been employed by individual industries and is investigating new techniques to detect Volatile Organic Compounds (known to cause unpleasant odours).
PELM Director Professor Warren Thorpe is quoted as saying Airlab's presence is a huge advantage for Gladstone, providing more capabilities to attack any environmental problems that might arise.
