Former VC named to governing council

Former CQUniversity Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor John Rickard has been appointed the Foundation Chair of the new Higher Education Governing Council of the Melbourne Institute of Technology, it was announced this week by the organisation.
"John Rickard [‘s]wide experience and industry knowledge will be invaluable as MIT builds the foundations for university college status," said Mr Shesh Ghale, a joint owner of MIT, in a media statement.
According to MIT Professor Rickard will playa key role in ensuring academic integrity and high level quality assurance processes for the Institute.
The Governing Council has responsibility for the academic governance of MIT. According to the statement Professor Rickard welcomed the opportunity to "play an integral part in the development of MIT as a self-accrediting higher education provider and to assist MIT to achieve its aspirations for university status."
"Australian higher education is changing fast, private providers have a big role to play and MIT is an exciting place to be," Professor Rickard said.
