Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Mackay's outstanding student mentors recognised 

The Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay campus held a special evening to recognise and thank their Student Mentors of 2006 at the Annual Mentor presentations evening last Thursday the 21st September, at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) foyer.

PhotoID:3525 “Mentors of the Year” awards were awarded to Riely Molloy, Meegan Menzies and Jessica Cope in recognition for their outstanding work as Mentors for 2006.

CQU’s Student Mentor program is designed to help new students at University through their first year of study by assigning them a second or third year trained Student Mentor.

Throughout the course of the year, mentorees have a mentor to go to for guidance or assistance on any issues they might be having.

Professor Phillip Clift, Head of CQU Mackay Campus, presented the awards to the students and praised the efforts of all Mentors.

“The Mentor program is an excellent program that new students benefit from on many levels. We look forward to seeing more Mentors helping new students next year ” said Professor Clift.
