CQUniversity graduate and Heights College teacher Sam Fesuk is helping students of the school get hands-on experience of how plants can help remediate contaminated soil.
Mr Fesuk, who has both science and teaching qualifications from the University, has arranged for his students to visit Plant and Water Sciences at Rockhampton Campus.

Around a dozen of the students are learning how soil contaminated with sump oil can be remediated using plants (phytoremediation) and microbes (bioremediation).
Associate Professor Nanjappa Ashwath has been hosting the project. This week, the students have been preparing pots for their experiment.
