Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Peter Sawyer biographical details 

Peter Sawyer, BBus(Acc), QUT, FAICD, FCA, FFSI, FICAA qualified as an accountant in 1974. In 1977 he became a Chartered Accountant and a Partner of the accounting firm, ULTON. ULTON has since become one of regional Queensland's largest chartered accounting, business advisory and financial planning firms, with a team of 80 professionals in offices located in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

As a Senior Partner, Peter oversaw the practice; the financial planning division and the marketing functions. His principal areas of interest have been in small business; taxation planning; management and consulting and he has a strong interest in financial services.

Although retiring from practice in 2008, Peter maintains his interest in a number of public companies and private organisations.  He holds Directorships of several companies with retail, manufacturing and property interests, including the Burnett Sawmill Pty Ltd and the Bundaberg Technology Park. In addition, he is an Executive of the Wide Bay Burnett Area Consultative Committee. As the current Chairman and Director of the Bundaberg Friendly Society Medical Institute Limited, Peter's leadership has been instrumental in significant development and growth, with the hospital now comprising an 87 bed facility and a large pharmacy.
