Mackay set to become centre of excellence for chiropractic profession
Published on 26 July, 2011
New medical imaging facilities at Mackay Campus underpin plans for CQUniversity's new Chiropractic Science programs, being rolled out for 2012. It is envisaged students and academics from Imaging and Chiropractic programs will be able to work closely in years to come.
The large cohort of chiropractic professionals in the Mackay region was also a factor in the University's decision to fast-track this program, as it will include a focus on work-integrated learning.
Details about Chiropractic Science will be available to visitors to the Mackay Campus Open Day, scheduled for Sunday August 7. This free day offers the chance for prospective students to chat with academic staff and current students, as well as activities for family groups. LINK for more Open Day details
The new Chiropractic Science programs will be evidence-based, bringing together learning from a range of clinical sciences to set students on the path to become professionals.
Students will learn skills in the diagnosis and management of patients. They will develop a range of spinal and patient assessment procedures and basic therapeutic approaches to common musculoskeletal presentations such as low back pain, neck and shoulder pain and headache.
Students will also learn to manage patients from a wellness perspective to help them achieve optimal well-being. They'll learn chiropractic psychomotor skills integrated with a knowledge of basic science.
In related news, CQUniversity is also developing a new Master of Health Professional Education program to respond to growing demands for clinical educators and to meet the ongoing professional development needs of clinicians.
