Recovering from disasters through words

Central Queensland residents will be encouraged to record their personal flood experiences on paper as part of a CQUniversity-led project titled Resurfacing Stronger.
Coordinator Dr Lynda Hawryluk said the project would enable residents of the flood affected regions of Rockhampton and Emerald to share their personal stories of the 2010/2011 floods through life writing, creative non-fiction and songs.
"We are hoping Central Queensland residents will join us for a writing workshop to describe and record individual experiences about the recent events as part of the community healing and recovery process."
All ages and abilities are welcome at the workshops where there will be trained writing teachers to facilitate sessions.
There will also be a social worker/psychologist on hand to provide assistance thanks to Centacare and the CQUniversity Wellness Centre.
