Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Student Performers Showcased in 'Con Carnivale' 

Rockhampton people have a chance to attend a wide range of shows supported by Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music and CQU's Faculty of Education and Creative Arts during October.

Most of the shows will be presented in the creative arts precinct on the Rockhampton Campus of Central Queensland University.

PhotoID:302 They will showcase the talents of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Performing Arts degree and those enrolled in the secondary drama major within the Bachelor of Learning Management degree offered by the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts.

On Monday (Oct 7), there will be a video production showcase in the Creative Arts theatre between 5pm-7pm, and a diverse series of drama shows entitled 'Directions' from 7pm in the Helene Jones Room and Bencke Studio. Entry to these events is free of charge.

On Thursday (Oct 10), the music performance class will present a showcase concert featuring popular and original vocal and instrumental items, from 1pm in the Helene Jones Room. Entry is free.

On Friday (Oct 11), students will present a drama, dance and song production called 'Empty Chairs' in the East Street Entertainment Centre, from 7.30pm. Entry is only $5.

On Saturday (Oct 12), performing arts students will feature in the CQU Student Association presentation evening at the Birdcage Bar on Rockhampton Campus.

On Sunday (Oct 13), the students will perform at Arts in Park at Rockhampton Botanic Gardens from 9.45am. They will also feature in the 'Just Musical' show at the Pilbeam Theatre that same day from 3pm. Bookings for this celebration of stage musicals are via the Pilbeam on 4927 4111.

PhotoID:303 Meanwhile, until October 16, members of the public can visit the Arthur Appleton Gallery within the creative arts precinct to witness the Pigments of the Imagination art exhibition. This exhibition is presented by the Rockhampton branch of the Royal Queensland Art Society Inc in conjunction with CQU. Gallery hours are 10am to 4pm excluding Sundays.

The Faculty of Education and Creative Arts is also supporting a range of experimental theatre productions in the third week of October. Details are available by calling 4930 9579.
