New Gladstone students prepare for university study

CQU Gladstone’s newest students have had their first taste of tertiary study after attending Uniskills week.
Uniskills week is an optional week offered to give students an introduction to the maths and writing skills required for successful university careers.
Campus Orientation Co-ordinator, Pam Brown said the week was an ideal way for new students to ease themselves into tertiary study.
“The idea of this week is to give the students a good start in their studies. Writing assignments at a tertiary level can be very different to what they have done before and the maths component is usually a good way to freshen up their skills. “Feedback from the students who attend Uniskills week is always very positive and shows us that there is a definite need for this type of service. In fact we often get second and third-year students attending just to prepare themselves for the new year,” said Mrs Brown.
Both the maths and the writing sessions have run for the entire week and are a lead up to the main orientation program which will be held on Saturday February 25 for off campus students and Tuesday February 28 for internal students.
