Comalco tours campus

Staff from Gladstone’s Comalco Alumina Refinery (CAR) visited Central Queensland University Gladstone this week to learn more about their local university.
Gladstone head of campus, Associate Professor Robert Prater said the visit was arranged by the two organisations to give CAR staff the opportunity to tour the campus and find out what the university could do for them, their staff and families.
CAR is Gladstone’s newest industry, currently in construction phase 10km northwest of Gladstone.
“Many of the staff at Comalco are new to the Gladstone region and don’t yet know what their local university can offer," Mr Prater said.
“It was a very productive day and we both gained a lot of good ideas resulting from the visit.".
Staff from faculties, the Centre for Environmental Management, the Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre and the Library spoke to the group.
Members of the CAR group included CAR General Manager, Trevor Peters, community relations and human resource staff and technology and engineering managers.
The campus plans to host several familiarisation visits for other local organisations later in the year.
