Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

COIN Academy signs on 150th community group 

For over three years the COIN Academy, a joint initiative between CQU and Rockhampton City Council, has been providing free basic computer and Internet training to more than 1100 members of local not-for-profit community groups.

The centre also provides free computer and Internet access to its members to practice their newly found skills, as well as the opportunity to host their own website on Capricornia Online http://www.capricornia.org.

COIN recently celebrated a milestone with the centre signing on its 150th not-for-profit community group, Rockhampton Toastmasters.

The Rockhampton Toastmasters Club was formed in 1967 and has been the top club in the Central Division six times. It provides a supportive learning environment in which to gain skills in public speaking and leadership.
