Bundaberg Campus hosts schools for sci-tech challenge

CQUniversity Bundaberg is looking forward to hosting at least 5 high school teams competing in the annual Science & Engineering Challenge on Friday (May 14).

North State High, St Lukes Anglican College, Rosedale School, Bundaberg High and first-timers Gin Gin High are all expected.

The winning school will compete in a Southern Queensland challenge in August and, if successful, will attend a national challenge in October. LINK HERE for details about the Challenge

The Challenge is a joint project conducted by the University of Newcastle and the local community aimed at inspiring young people to consider a career in the sciences, engineering or other technology-related areas. The Challenge van rolls into town each year laden with fun and interesting activities.

Last year, over 40 students from Bundaberg took part in the Challenge and the Bundaberg Organising Committee is confident this will increase in 2010.

According to organisers, the hands-on competitive nature of the Challenge allows students to experience the creative side of science and engineering in a fun atmosphere.

Challenge supporters include the Rotary Club of Bundaberg West and Engineers Australia as well as the local schools.  Local support and sponsorship has also been given by Tri-Dek Lighting and the Athole Lodge.
