Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

E-Learning and Internet software licensed 

CQU has signed up under the Macromedia Australia and New Zealand University Licensing Program, which will ensure that the University is correctly licensed and that all staff has the tools necessary to teach and create eLearning and Internet business applications. The agreement is effective for 12 months from 11 March 2003 to 11 March 2004.

All staff, teaching, lab and management computers are covered under this agreement, according to CQU ITD. Exclusions are those student owned computers that are in Independent Residences, Dormitories and other places not directly managed by the University.

How will it work? One serial number will be allocated to each product and platform and the software will be provided on CD-ROM. These Products are distributed through a CD loan-out process, under the control of the ITD Client Service Centre. The software is available cross platform and can be installed on Windows OS and Mac OS based computers either owned or leased by the University. The exception is Authorware 6, which is only available on the Windows Platform.

Staff Responsibilities? Staff should ensure that the software installed on their computers is used for class preparation, research, curriculum development and other University activities only. It cannot be used by staff that offer consultancies to commercial customers or similar. If commercial development is contemplated, staff will need to purchase the full commercial versions of our products to develop these sites or applications (eg eLearning, communication etc). Upon expiration or termination of the Agreement, or if requested to do so for any reason, Customer must destroy all copies of the Macromedia Products and certify that all Macromedia Products, including all previously distributed copies of the Macromedia Products, have been destroyed. The Customer must remove/delete the Software resident on his/her personal computer(s).

Macromedia Studio MX, comprising: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Fireworks MX, Macromedia Flash MX, Macromedia Freehand 10, Macromedia Cold Fusion MX, Macromedia Director 8.5 Studio, Macromedia Authorware 6 (only available on Windows OS) Pricing? Each license (incorporates all software products listed above) will cost $44.00 inc gst.

1. Users/Divisions/Faculties must read and accept the conditions of the agreement. An Authorized Financial Delegate of your faculty/division MUST sign off on the agreement form and a cost must be provided for recharge purposes. If there is no cost cost provided, the software will not be provided.

2. Take or send the approved agreement to the ITD Client Service Centre (Building 19, Rockhampton Campus) where you will be provided with the software CD and relevant serial codes. Users/Divisions/Faculties are responsible for installation of the software onto computer(s). 3. The software CD must be returned to the ITD Client Service Centre immediately after successful installation.
