German study abroad student Alex Linnemann was one of 17 students who said goodbye to CQUniversity during a Going Home Ceremony this week.
Alex has been at CQUniversity since February and has enjoyed every moment.
German student Alex LinnemannOriginally from Marburg in the middle of Germany and more recently from Frankfurt, Alex came to Rockhampton as a psychology student but said the trip was more about learning the Australian culture.
On arriving in Australia, Alex couldn't believe the heat and humidity and it took a little while for her to acclimatise. This was also a little difficult as her luggage was misplaced and she was left with the winter clothes she left Germany in, where it was minus 20 degrees.
She expected to be living in Brisbane when she arrived in Australia and was a little disorientated when told she would be staying in Rockhampton. She had never heard of it; however she is very glad she came.
"I love this place. I love the easy-going nature of the people here. That's one of the main reasons I wanted to come to Australia."
She said that, from the local bus driver to her amazing lecturers, she enjoys the 'more personal' communication here.
When she leaves Rockhampton in mid-June, she will head out for an outback adventure to Uluru, Alice Springs and Darwin before another study experience in Perth.
"I've heard that I won't want to go back home to Germany after to going to Perth. Although, I would be just as happy to stay here. I have just got comfortable with my life here."
Alex attended the Going Home Celebration on Wednesday evening along with other international students from eight different countries.
