Gladstone welcomes mid-year students

A small but enthusiastic group of students attended a mid-year orientation session at the Gladstone campus on Wednesday night.

The students will begin their tertiary studies with CQU when term starts next week.

PhotoID:3183 Student Counsellor and organiser of the night, Pam Brown, said it was an excellent start to the term for the new students.

“We received a lot of positive feedback from the group. It was a great opportunity for them to get to know essential contacts on campus and to get some advice on how to start their study.

“Orientation sessions are also a chance for students to meet what is often their best resource – other students and in particular someone studying the same program, “The session ran for about an hour and a half to accommodate for the fact that most of the students starting mid-year were flexible learning and as a result, are quite pressed for time. The group were also happy to be finished in time to watch the State of Origin series,” said Mrs Brown.

Some of the students also chose to attend two study skills session that were held during the day on study skills and time management.

The Gladstone campus is also running a “Study Smorgasboard” session in week two for those students looking for a little more help with their studies.

The session will be held on Tuesday 18 July from 5:30-8:30pm and is a chance for students, both new and continuing, to get more help with assignment writing and referencing.
