Postgraduate enrolments up by 15%

Central Queensland University has increased its postgraduate students by 15% for 2003.

CQU’s Marketing Officer Tina White said following an impressive 2002 recruitment of postgrad students, the University has again boosted its numbers and attracted almost 500 new postgraduate students.

Significant increases in student numbers have been reported in the Graduate Diploma in Occupational, Health and Safety, Master of Letters, Master of Learning Management and particularly the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology.

The number of students enrolled in psychology has almost doubled compared to enrolments recorded at the same time last year.

Ms White said 112 students had enrolled in the psychology program forcing the Faculty to stop enrolling any more students in the program.

The Master of Letters enrolments are up by 150% and Occupational Health and Safety are also by 100%, compared to enrolments at the same time last year.

With the introduction of the Master of Learning Management program at Gladstone and Pomona, postgraduate enrolments in education grew by 80%.

CQU has also reported an increase in demand over last year in undergraduate programs in Social Work and Psychology, Human Movements Science and Accounting.

The number of students studying for a degree in Building Surveying has more than doubled over last year. CQU’s Faculty of Informatics and Communication also reports a strong preference for the University’s unique Bachelor of E-Journalism, up by 50% over last year.

Interest, like last year, is robust for Nursing and Nursing Informatics. In fact demand for CQU Nursing has increased more than 50% over last year.
