Take bigger STEPS to accelerate into higher education

CQU Mackay is in the last stages of recruiting for two Accelerated STEPS classes which will commence on July 10.

The Accelerated STEPS program varies slightly from the normal STEPS program in that it runs for 12 weeks, classes are intensive and fast-paced, and it requires a four-day per week commitment of Mackay students.

Students applying for the accelerated STEPS and STEPS program can expect brief diagnostic assessments and also a 15-minute interview which aims to identify and brainstorm any barriers students might have to succeeding in STEPS.

“STEPS is not just about accepting the right students,” says Intake Officer at CQU, Katrina Richmond, “we approach each potential student with the belief that we can help them become successful. We work with the students to understand how we will be able to help them get to where they want to be”.

“If we cannot accept students into STEPS in the first instance, we work with them and provide alternatives so that we will see them graduate and enter university,” said Katrina.

Since 1986, STEPS has helped over 3500 students qualify and undertake tertiary studies. Later this year, CQU’s regional campuses will celebrate 20 successful years of STEPS at CQU.

Applications for the Accelerated STEPS program close on June 19. Potential students interested in making a change should contact Katrina Richmond at CQU on 4940 7416.
