10 minutes of film showcases life of Bundy Arts Centre

At the Bundaberg Arts Centre on Friday March 10, a film produced by 2 Bundaberg Multimedia and IT students received its premiere screening, to an audience assembled to celebrate the Arts Centre’s 10 Year Anniversary.

The film was extremely well received, and has already garnered interest from a tourism centre to display the work on a permanent basis.

PhotoID:3013 Entitled '10 Years in 10 Minutes: Celebrating 10 Years at the Bundaberg Arts Centre', the film was produced by 3rd-year multimedia and IT students Max Fleet and Paula Swift. Bundaberg multimedia lecturer Grayson Cooke was executive producer on the project.

Grayson Cooke said: “Shelley Pisani, the Arts Centre coordinator, asked me if I would be interested in working on a video to celebrate their 10 year anniversary, and I saw that this would be a fantastic opportunity to give some of our students further real-world experience. This was a commercial project so the students were paid, and the film they produced was of an extremely high standard".

The film features interviews with local artists and friends of the Arts Centre, as well as photographs and video footage documenting Bundaberg’s Public Art projects and the Arts Centre’s collection.

The project was produced using Adobe Premiere, software that the students learnt to use in the multimedia course Digital Moviemaking.

Max Fleet said: “At university we are taught the fundamental concepts of digital film production but nothing can give you a greater insight into what is expected from a commissioned project in the public sector than experience itself. I found the entire process of compiling the Arts Centre video invaluable".

Shelly Pisani said: “The 10 Years in 10 Minutes project has been a great success for the Arts Centre. CQU students Max Fleet and Paula Swift under the guidance of Dr Grayson Cooke, did a fantastic job of capturing the highlights of the Bundaberg Arts Centre in the first 10 years of its operation. We will be able to use this film with future projects, particularly for highlighting the roles of the Arts Centre to potential funding bodies and sponsors".

"The Arts Centre's ongoing project collaborations with CQU are a vital link for us. We are able to provide skills development to students, promote both our programs and those of CQU and demonstrate how community partnerships can deliver successful outcomes,” Ms Pisani said.
