The CQU Challenge, which begins on July 12th, is part of a wide promotion of physical activity in workplaces. Participants make a commitment to improve their health and log how many steps they take while on the job or walking around the area. The community-wide, multi-strategy physical activity project had made a significant impact on physical activity levels, particularly in the Rockhampton Community and a number of other workplaces.

Ergon Energy and Queensland Health’s Rockhampton Health Service District, for example, have adopted a healthy lifestyle program for the benefit of their staff. Ergon Energy has instituted the program across the State, with about 1000 Ergon staff currently participating in the workplace challenge.

The 10,000 Steps Queensland project, funded by Queensland Health and based at CQU, is a community-based and multi-strategy program focused on physical activity and the social determinants of health.
