New course to focus on our region's leaders

A buzz is growing around Australia about a new CQU course for managers and aspiring managers, the Graduate Diploma of Learning Management (Executive Leadership).

Program coordinator Robyn Smith said the 'fully flex' course could be studied on-line from anywhere and was proving just as popular with industry leaders as with school leaders.

Ms Smith said the new course complemented and built upon the range of existing qualifications available to leaders in business and industry positions.

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Education lecturer recently met Member for Dawson James Bidgood to discuss the new course, due to accept enrolments from Term 2 this year.

She said the Graduate Diploma program will comprise of 3 courses, with the option of continuing studies to obtain a Master of Learning Management (MLM) in Executive Leadership.

"The course is a fantastic opportunity for employers seeking a new set of competencies in the areas of leadership and teamwork to up-skill and earn a university qualification right here in Mackay," Mr Bidgood said.

"The flexible mode of study being offered by the University and the possibility to apply for recognition of prior learning will make this course very appealing to many people operating in leadership positions right now, especially for those people who may have never considered studying a university course before."

The structure of the program will enable students to tailor projects to their workplace. The course will build upon existing knowledge, experience and qualifications of managers and leaders.

Ms Smith said the fundamental premise of the Graduate Diploma of Learning Management (Executive Leadership) was flexibility.

"Students can study in a time and place of their choice and undertake assessment relevant to their own industry," she said.
