Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Hard work pays 

Hard work and dedication has paid off for local university student Janelle Sawtell who recently accepted a scholarship from local accounting firm Alex Campbell & Co. for her academic achievements.

PhotoID:801 Janelle a third-year Bachelor of Business student was awarded the $200 Alex Campbell & Co Prize after achieving the highest results in her subjects; management accounting, corporate accounting and company and association law.

Mrs Sawtell said it was an honour and a pleasure to receive recognition for her hard work.

“It’s good to get such support from local firms and it really encourages you to try even harder,” said Mrs Sawtell.

Mr Alex Campbell said his firm had been awarded the prize each year since 1987 as a way of demonstrating their support for CQU and the students.

“We have always supported CQU and the majority of our younger staff are CQU graduates,” said Mr Campbell.

Janelle will finish her degree in 2004.
