Uni welcomes $643,978 for learning and teaching

CQUniversity has welcomed news that it will receive $643,978 from the Federal Government for improvements made to its performance in 'learning and teaching', over the years from 2005 to 2007.

The funding recognises sustained improvements across the University, based on criteria such as student retention and progression rates, as well as rates of student satisfaction.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard pledged to put the funding towards priorities in the University's Learning and Teaching Strategy action plan.

"We aim to build on these improvements in coming years," he said.

Professor Rickard congratulated staff for their enthusiasm and hard work underpinning these achievements.

Member for Capricornia, Kirsten Livermore announced that CQUniversity's funding was part of the Australian Government's 2009 Learning and Teaching Performance Fund, worth more than $73 million.

"CQUniversity is to be congratulated," Ms Livermore said.

"This reflects well on the quality of learning and teaching in Central Queensland, and shows that the University is improving in this most important part of its mission.

"In 2009 the fund will reward more universities than ever before. This follows the Government's decision to introduce an improvement component, which recognises universities for improving their teaching and learning performance over time.

"The 2009 fund results show that most universities are putting enhanced effort into improving the quality of their teaching, and this directly benefits students by improving the quality of the education they receive," Ms Livermore said.
