Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Family harmony key to Night of the Proms

Rockhampton's Night of the Proms has turned into a real family affair with spouses, parents, children and siblings mixing in complete harmony.

Rockhampton Concert Orchestra (RCO) representative Michelle Ilott said that, of the 100-plus singers and instrumentalists involved in the production, up to a quarter were related in some way.

The third annual Night of the Proms will be held at Rockhampton's Pilbeam Theatre from 8pm on Saturday, July 27. Bookings are via 4927 4111.

Presented by Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, the Proms will feature the RCO, a 60-voice Community Proms Choir, guest conductor Christopher Kiver and soloists Dimitri Kopanakis, Amanda O'Brien, Linda Maczuga, Ian Bofinger, Meghan Tait, Alice Girle, Andrew Conaghan and Robert Heppell.

Feature items will include Nessun Dorma, Les Miserables, Meditation, West Side Story, Polovtsian Dances, Moulin Rouge, Pie Jesu, One Fine Day, Song of Joy and The Lord Is My Shepherd (from Vicar of Dibley).

Ms Ilott said audience participation was key to the event, so people were encouraged to bring their flags.
