Students pass on prize chance to support charity

CQUniversity students have embraced the concept of giving up their place in a prize draw in order to support charity.

Students providing feedback for course evaluations had the option of being in a prize draw or to give up their place so funds could instead flow to Salaam Baalak (a charity helping disadvantaged kids in Delhi) or CQUni Cares (financial assistance for students in need).

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) Professor Rob Reed said the response rate for the latest course evaluations was 50% and students raised a total of $960 ($420 for Salaam Baalak and $540 for CQUni Cares).

"It's fantastic to see students taking this opportunity to ‘give back' to local and international causes," Professor Reed says.

Arts/Business student Briana Ives chose to support CQUni Cares and is encouraging even more students to choose the charity option during the next round of course evaluations.

"I know first-hand what it is like to struggle financially. University can be expensive. CQUni Cares is a great fund that gives back directly to those students who need it most. By choosing CQUni Cares, I chose to give back to help my classmates who may need it and there is nothing more satisfying than that."

Students can provide course feedback via their online 'Moodle' site after each term.

Donations can be made to the fund via online giving page,  or staff can donate via workplace giving.  To set up a regular donation via Workplace Giving staff should complete the registration formMore information about CQUni Cares can be found on the  CQUni Cares Brochure or contact Senior Development Officer, Tamsen Clifford-Banks on 07 4923 2786 or email ourpartners@cqu.edu.au.
