Staff ready to focus on learning and teaching

CQU's teaching staff will endeavour to adopt better practices after attending this year’s annual Teaching and Learning Showcase.

The Showcase, organised by the University’s Division of Teaching and Learning Services, has become an annual event held in February – just before the beginning of the first major teaching term.

The Showcase is an annual three-day event scheduled for February 23 to 25 in Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone and Bundaberg.

A cocktail party is planned for showcase participants on Thursday, February 24, where Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard will present the VC’s Awards for Quality Teaching and will launch the CQU Library’s new website.

Associate Director (Learning and Teaching), Associate Professor Leone Hinton said the showcase was an opportunity for CQU teaching staff to focus on current learning and teaching practices in higher education.

“There will be keynote speakers from around Australia and overseas, each giving their perspective on learning and teaching in higher education, while CQU teachers will have the opportunity to talk about their own practices,” Ms Hinton said.

“The many changes that are occurring in higher education, in Australia and around the world, have inspired the theme of this year’s Showcase – Telling our stories: Learning from change.”.

The Showcase will focus on three aspects of this theme – changing student engagement with higher education, changing technology options for educators and changing approaches to teaching and learning.

The program for each day will include a keynote speaker, presentations by CQU staff and a workshop or panel discussion centered on one of these sub-themes.
