Student dancers eligible for Las Vegas Prize

Student dancers Holly Headrick and Ashley Fergus have won their way through to the Showcase Grand National Championship, to be held at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast in January.

Both dancers won enough points at the regional finals in Townsville recently to make them eligible for the Dancer of the Year category, for which awards include cash prizes and a trip to an international dance competition at Las Vegas.

Both dancers are enrolled in the Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) degree offered by Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, part of the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts at Central Queensland University. The BPA program sponsored their entry into the Showcase competition.

‘Showcase’ is the official dance championships for theatrical dance in Australia, hosting thousands of performers from all over Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Indonesia.

During their Gold Coast visit, Ashley and Holly will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses with American dance experts and will perform in the opening number for the Battle of the Stars show at the casino.

PhotoID:515 The Gold Coast event will attract media coverage and Ashley and Holly will have their photos hung in a performers’ gallery at the Casino for the duration of the event.
