Rockhampton-based doctoral researcher Ashfaque Chowdhury is looking forward to receiving his prize of a new ASUS Eee Pc, after becoming a weekly winner of Engineers Australia's 'Make it so' campaign.
Ashfaque asked to "make it so that a universal charger can be used in all the electronic devices to recharge them". The competition judges selected him as the Week 3 winner of the campaign promoted at www.makeitso.org.au/ .

"We are required to use several portable devices (iPod, cellphone, notebook, GPS, portable hard drive, portable DVD/CD ROMs etc) in our day-to-day activities," he said.
"It is really clumsy to carry so many chargers for all the devices. It is also hard to use so many chargers specially when I am on the go. Therefore, I think it would be good if our engineers can develop a universal charger so that the users do not need to carry so many chargers at the same time."
Ashfaque said he had heard about the 'Make it so' campaign from Engineers Australia website.
"It is such an inspiring marketing campaign to come in contact with the wider community; to know what they need. I truly believe in the slogan of the 'Make it so' campaign, that if people can imagine the idea, our engineers are capable of implementing the idea to serve all the Australians."
The 'Make it so' competition aims to raise awareness of engineering as a profession amongst Australians. It will end on May 15.
At the end of the 12-week campaign, the final winner will have their idea ‘made so' by a dedicated team of engineers.
Peter Taylor, CEO of Engineers Australia said the competition organisers wanted to lift the curtain on what it is engineers actually do.
"We want to help Australians understand that from bridges to Blackberrys, drinking water to the Water Cube - engineers and engineering teams help ‘make it so' in the community," he said.
