Career forecast looks bright for e-Journalism graduate
Published on 21 June, 2007
CQU e-journalism graduate Jacqueline Taylor is working her way up the media ladder as her workplace locations move south.
Originally born and bred in Darwin, Jacqueline started off in the industry as a 15-year-old tape operator for the 'Live Racing Show' supplied by Sky TV and Darwin Turf Club.
Jacqueline then progressed into radio, and worked as a casual announcer, a panel operator for outside broadcasts (OBs), and as a hot thunder streets driver for the 4HI heritage station in Emerald, and the commercial station Hot FM at Rockhampton.
She started off with the WIN News team at Rockhampton Queensland as a news/weather assistant in her third year of university, in September 2005.
This is where she worked for 18 months alongside weather presenter Peter Byrne by entering weather data for the 5 markets: Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton/Gladstone, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.
During her time at Hot FM and then WIN News, Jacqueline studied the Bachelor of e-Journalism at the Rockhampton campus of Central Queensland University.
She completed her 4-year degree in October 2006, when she graduated with a major in journalism, minor in professional communication (PR) and psychology.
Three months after finishing university and moving to Melbourne from Queensland, Jacqueline joined Victoria's WIN news team in January this year. Based in Ballarat, she's a journalist by day and presenter by night.
According to her WIN TV profile, she loves writing and presenting the 6 weather bulletins for Mildura, Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury-Wodonga, Gippsland and Ballarat, as well as the late State update.
Jacqueline still finds time to visit Melbourne and every time she sees the CQU-branded tram, she gains some fond memories of her University days.
