CQU poised to lead the way in quality online learning

Shaune Sinclair and Jillian Litster presented on developments in Media Streaming, at Monday’s Teaching and Learning seminar.

The enthusiastic audience was impressed to hear about the direction CQU is taking in providing a high quality, professional and individualised media streaming resource for students and staff.

PhotoID:1646 After an extensive investigation into a wide variety of options available, the CQU media streaming working party has finally decided on a package that will see the university well placed to take a leading role in online learning support using media streaming.

Already trial presentations have been developed to demonstrate just some of the functionality and pedagogic value of the chosen technology.

These trail demonstrations also illustrate the importance of maintaining an ongoing commitment to quality control and careful preparation when using media streaming to support online learning.

Participants at Monday’s seminar were introduced to some of the streamed examples and also got to hear feedback from staff and students on various streaming trials that have been running for the past two years.

The two-year trials were investigating the applicability of media streaming to CQU educational practice.

The response from both staff and students to these trials has been positive and has helped shaped the final media streaming decision such that the technology CQU will be using meets the educational needs of both staff and students.

PhotoID:1647 The strengths of the future direction CQU will be taking with media streaming lies in its ability to be accessed easily across a variety of user platforms and in its potential to actively engage students in the learning process by giving them control over the way they use and navigate through the material.

Jillian and Shaune indicated that the application of the technology will be rolled out progressively over the next 12 months to ensure an appropriate and high quality implementation of media streaming at Central Queensland University.
