Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Former CQU Council Member humbled by Australia Day Award 

CQU engineering graduate and recent CQU Council Member Tim Griffin has been honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division as part of the Australia Day 2007 awards.

PhotoID:3664 Mr Griffin has been described as a “people’s person”, and he is both humbled and honoured by being recognised by his peers within the local, national and international Engineering Profession and Rockhampton community, for his contribution to both his profession and local regional community.

Tim said, he “is proud of volunteering and giving back to the Central Queensland community under both his past advisory and current Council board governance roles; National President of Australia’s Technology Professionals (APESMA) and President of Cressy Tennis Club in Rockhampton”.

Tim said, “Encouraging and providing opportunities for young regional people to pursue a career in engineering and technology professions and contributing to the development of regional Queensland living, has been rewarding in itself”.

Rockhampton and the engineering profession have been both supportive and rewarding for me.” Tim spent Australia Day celebrating with his wife Kelsey and daughters Ashleigh & Rebecca in Cardiff, Wales United Kingdom, where he is presently on secondment to the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) for 2007.
