CQUniversity Rockhampton has again hosted coal industry specialists from across Queensland for their biennial two-day meeting.
The specialists have been attending the Combined Bowen Basin Geologists' Group & ACARP (Australian Coal Association Research Program) Meeting last week (Thursday and Friday).
BBGG secretary Joan Esterle said day one was focused on geophysical tools for characterisation of rock mass, to identify and mitigate hazards in open cut and underground mines.
Day two's focus is on improving the quantification and reporting of fugitive emission and green house gases from open cut mines, preparing for the Carbon Price Reduction Scheme.
Dr Esterle says the two-day gathering also has an AGM function, with election of office bearers.
"The event enables report backs from ACARP projects which are active or recently completed," she said.
ACARP is a company established by the coal industry to research, develop and demonstrate technologies that lead to the safe, sustainable production and utilisation of coal.
These projects cover:
- Greenhouse Gas Mitigation
- Safety & Occupational Health
- Environment & Rehabilitation of Mined Land
- Community Concerns & Land Access
- Cost of Production
- Technical Support for Marketing Australian Coals
- Sustainable Use of Coal
