When PhD candidate Naresh Rimal thinks about food and water, he considers them from both a transdisciplinary and transnational perspective...
The new arrival at our Centre for Environmental Management in Rockhampton believes it is crucial to take a holistic and system-wide approach to issues about the security of food and water.
For that reason, he is examining the social, environmental, cultural and political aspects of the food and water systems in Nepal and comparing them with conditions elsewhere in the world.
Naresh is very happy to be in Rockhampton, having arranged for his project to be supervised by CQUniversity professors David Midmore, John Rolfe and Stewart Lockie.
He is settling in Rockhampton with his wife and young son and quipped that it was "almost a PhD in itself" to get his son settled at school.
The keen bushwalker is looking forward to exploring the undeveloped parts of the Central Queensland region and hopes to join a number of collaborative research groupings on campus.
Naresh completed his bachelor (Environmental Science) and masters-level (Environmental Science and Policy) degrees at the University of Wisconsin in America.
One of his recent achievements was as Executive Chairperson of Seepwater, an NGO based in Nepal, when he edited a book titled Water Resources Security and Sustainability.
Before this, he held several research positions with university, government, consulting and business organisations, both in Nepal and the US.
Naresh has also participated in a range of international academic conferences.
