Published on 09 November, 2006
An exhilarating collection of fact, fiction and the in-between will be launched at the 8th Australian Publishers’ and Authors’ Book Show in Sydney on Sunday November 26 from 2.30pm and 4pm.
'Confessions and Memoirs: Best Stories Under the Sun – 3', edited by Michael Wilding and CQU's Professor David Myers, showcases Australia’s emerging new writers, top essayists and prize-winning novelists including Thomas Keneally, Kate Grenville, Peter Coleman, Morris Lurie, Peter Corris, Venero Armanno, Ashley Hay, Ian Callinan, Laurie Clancy and Carmel Bird.
Published by CQU Press, the book features winners of prestigious awards including the Booker, the Miles Franklin, Orange Prize and the Australian-Vogel Award to name just a few.
Among the works are Kate Grenville’s writing on 'The Secret River', Peter Coleman’s 'Diary of a Madman – a life in politics' and Peter Corris on the 'National Times'.
Venero Armanno writes vividly of domestic bliss and domestic farce, burglary and his unique dog with personality plus, Gaius, while Michael Wilding recalls learning to write on a slate in a country school, back in the dis-United Kingdom, class-ridden and cold. Laurie Clancy contributes a hilarious Melbourne email exchange which gets down to the basics of friendship and differences of opinion.
Guest speaker at the launch will be Senator the Hon Helen Coonan, Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate.
Copies of the book are available via CQU Press, 4923 2520 cqupress@cqu.edu.au , for $25.
