Over 70 Skills for Tertiary Preparatory Studies (STEPS) students completed Orientation Day activities at Central Queensland University Mackay recently.
STEPS co-ordinator Lyn Forbes-Smith said enrolment figures for 2004 had jumped by 40% above previous years.
“Recent higher education reforms allowed 25 extra places to be offered to mature-age people seeking admission the program,” she said.
“In the past few years we have received a steady amount of interest in the program, with these recent reforms allowing even more students to prepare for university studies.”.
The program relates to improving language, mathematics and research skills and is open to Australian citizens aged 19 years or over.
Full-time 13-week programs start in March and July, with a part-time course running for 26 weeks from March.
