Course evaluation pilot involves more than 2000 students

An Evaluation Pilot commissioned by CQU to improve student feedback and course quality is moving ahead steadily.

It is about educating staff and students about ways to gain constructive feedback that will lead to overall improvements at CQU.

Student contributions to this process are so imperative and necessary in order for CQU to continually improve on the courses and programs it offers.

There are about 24 staff from across the University participating, with about 24 courses involving well over 2000 students.

The pilot is aimed at the variety of students from across the University including domestic, international and flex students.

Flex students have been enthusiastic about the introduction of the Course Barometer. They have been especially in favour of being able to see all the other students' comments at this site, creating a more interactive learning experience.

Academics are responding to student issues as they are reported.  This has proved beneficial for students in that it has created a sense of being heard and awareness that issues are being addressed.

Some academics have been creative with the appraisal process and are trying different types of evaluation in their courses as well as the Barometer to encourage students to comment and critique on the quality of their courses and their learning journey.  The academics are keen to ensure the student voice is heard.

At the end of term, the CQU course evaluation instrument will be placed as a link inside Blackboard or Webfuse courses.

If students have any queries, issues or suggestions for improvement, please contact asdadmin@cqu.edu.au or call/contact Isobel Barker at the Student Association, email association-advocacy@cqu.edu.au or phone 07 4930 9161.
