Visiting jazz vocalist at Mackay Con

Students from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music are fortunate this week to receive a visit from New Zealand’s most worldly jazz export Malcolm McNeill.

Malcolm McNeill is one of New Zealand’s best loved and top selling performers with 9 recordings to his credit, and is the only artist to have recorded a popular duet album with acclaimed Opera Diva Kiri Te Kanawa - for which he wrote the title song 'Heart to Heart'.

PhotoID:2248 Malcolm's tremendous talent has taken him all over the world many times. He has toured the UK and performed regularly as a soloist with the major BBC orchestras and has performed at festivals in Holland, France, Italy, Bombay, and New Zealand. He also stars at numerous festivals in Australia - including Sydney's Manly and Queensland's Magnetic Island festivals.

With this and more to his credit, Malcolm is more than pleased to have the opportunity to give something back to an industry that has been so good to him. In recent years Malcolm has become more involved in teaching and production and is the visiting tutor for jazz vocal studies at Massey University in Wellington. He is now visiting Mackay to work with all vocal students at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM).

“We anticipate the students will be on a high this week,” said Judith Brown, Sub-Dean of the CQCM. “Malcolm is a wonderfully talented performer and has so much experience to share with the students".

“Malcolm will be holding vocal workshops this week, with one on Wednesday night from 7.30 – 9.30pm in the Conservatorium Theatre. Members of the public are welcome to come along and watch the students and perhaps hear snippets of Malcolm’s outstanding voice,” said Judith.

Once again, in line with the CQCM’s focus on working with industry professionals, the students at CQCM Mackay are thrilled to be working with Malcolm, a seasoned performer with over 30 years of industry knowledge and experience to impart.
