Bundy region students able to 'Get SET' early for career

Bundaberg region students will be able to ‘Get SET' for their career early on thanks to a new initiative from CQUniversity.

The central idea behind Get SET is to align a student, an employer, and a university degree before the student leaves school.

Bundaberg Campus marketing coordinator Emma Nock said the student gains experience in the type of business that interests them and may even begin their university degree (through CQUniversity's Start Uni Now program) or traineeship within their senior studies.

"This alignment provides a supportive environment in which the student feels that they can own their future," Ms Nock said.

"This approach reduces many uncertainties when planning a career.

"After secondary school, the Get SET student can study full-time or part-time at CQUniversity and pursue a range of work options with their employer.

Ms Nock said the arrangements are totally flexible and decided by mutual agreement between the employer and the student, with the potential for a scholarship, cadetship and/or salary.

"Get SET provides encouragement for students to work and study and allows them to stay in the region," she said.

"The Get SET Program can be tailored to meet the specific needs of individual employers and students, resulting in a higher rate of success for all participants."
