Shrew tale is bard to the bone

Mackay school children are encouraged to get a very tasty dose of Shakespeare while Kiss Me Kate is running at the Conservatorium Theatre.

Kiss Me Kate is a musical rendition of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew', complete with a jazzy score by Cole Porter, some lusty singing and sparkling dance numbers.

PhotoID:181 Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music lecturer Judith Brown said students could learn by following the parallels between the original story and the musical version.

"The musical is a fun introduction to Shakespeare, which will get children more interested in the play," she said.

She said matinees had been scheduled to encourage attendance by younger audience members.

The major production of Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music will be staged from 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (August 22-24), with matinees at 11am on the Thursday and Friday and at 1pm on the Saturday. Bookings are via CQCM on 4940 7800.
