Sydney water damage 'inconvenient but fixable'

Three floors (levels 6, 7, and 8) of CQUniversity Sydney (333 Kent Street) were damaged by water overnight (this week) due to a malfunction in the building's sprinkler system.

CQUniversity State Director (NSW) Susan Loomes says carpet and ceiling tiles in 8 classrooms were damaged. About 25 classes needed to be rescheduled for later this week, mostly at the University's 400 Kent Street location.

"It's inconvenient and unfortunate, but fixable. No students will be disadvantaged by this disruption," said Ms Loomes.

Students were advised via email at about 3am on Monday morning that the 333 facilities had been shut down and that classes were to be rescheduled.

Levels 4 and 5 at 333 Kent Street also experienced some water damage, but those levels are not used by CQUniversity.

Whilst the cost of damage is unknown at this stage, most computer equipment and furniture were reportedly not damaged by the water. There were no injuries.

CQUniversity believes that some of the space at 333 Kent Street should be operational again by Wednesday.
