139 graduates of Central Queensland University, attended graduation and award ceremonies in Bundaberg.

Friday, July 14, University and Faculty award winners were presented with their prizes, and on Saturday, July 15, the formal graduation ceremony was held at the Moncrieff Theatre.

Executive Deans, Professors Richard Smith, Gus Geursen and Elizabeth Taylor presented graduates to CQU’s Chancellor Rennie Fritschy. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Angela Delves was also in attendance. The guest speaker for the ceremony was Dr Judith Pippin.

Dr Judith Pippen is no stranger to University life. She began her studies at the University of Sydney, completed her first degree at the University of Queensland, her Masters at Lancaster University in England and her Doctorate at the Queensland University of Technology, where she taught for some years. Judith is currently working freelance for local government and community groups as a community consultant, policy maker, grant writer and project manager.

Acting Head of Bundaberg Campus Dr Helen Huntly said that graduation was an especially significant event in a regional area such as Bundaberg, with many of the graduates being the first in their family to complete a higher education degree program.

"I always look forward to Graduation. It’s wonderful to catch up with our students, most of whom have now entered their chosen profession, having accepted positions throughout Australia and overseas," explains Dr Huntly. "It is also most humbling to witness the pride of family and friends as the graduates cross the stage with their hand-earned degrees." Dr Huntly also expressed her appreciation to the many local businesses and organisations who give generously as donors for the awards. She further acknowledged the dedication of academic and administrative staff on the Bundaberg Campus, whose hard work is evidenced by the success of our many graduates.
