Brisbane hosts Chinese New Year celebration

CQU Brisbane International Campus recently held a Chinese New Year celebration to mark the beginning of the year of the pig.
This was a great opportunity for current students to bring a family member or friend along to see our campus facilities, our multicultural approach and the care we show for our students.
The celebration started with a traditional Chinese Lion Dance in the foyer of the campus. It is believed that this dance brings happiness and luck and scares away all evil.
Following with tradition, the lion was fed an orange by our Campus Director during the performance. The skin of the orange represents gold and when the lion spits it out, it symbolises spreading of wealth and fortune.
Lycee packets (lucky red envelopes with a gold coin enclosed) were handed to all students as a symbol of good luck. This was followed by a feast of traditional Chinese cuisine which was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff.
