Opera Career Nurtured from Beef Capital

Opera singer, concert vocalist and music theatre performer Dimitri Kopanakis is proving that it is possible to nurture a professional career while based in a regional centre.
Over the next few months, he has been invited to perform in Darwin, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as several regional cities.
Dimitri is a guest soloist for the Vienna Pops New Year's Eve concert at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre concert hall.
He has also been invited as guest singer and guest conductor for Darwin Symphony Orchestra's next major concert, on February 15.
The Rockhampton-based Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music lecturer will perform at Central Queensland University 'going home' ceremonies for international students in Brisbane (Dec 11), Sydney (Dec 12) and Melbourne (Dec 13).
He will perform at CQU Foundation Christmas concerts in Gladstone (Dec 3), Rockhampton (Dec 4) and Mackay (Dec 6).
In addition, he has agreed to be guest vocalist at Capricornia Silver Band's 11th annual St Paul's Cathedral Concert in Rockhampton on December 8.
Dimitri's previous work includes such professional and semi-professional productions as The Phantom of the Opera, Mariah Carey's World Tour, ENZSO with Neil and Tim Finn, West Side Story, Les Mishrables, 42nd Street, and Oliver!. His opera performances include The Bartered Bride, Orfeo, Porgy and Bess, StudiOpera, Angelique, L'enfant et les Sortilhges and Myths, Tales and Legends, and has also performed in masterclass for Joseph Ward OBE, Gerald English, Gregory Yurisich and Martin Cook. He has performed for many corporate companies, in various gala and charity benefit concerts, and smaller productions of The Sound of Music, The Little Shop of Horrors, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Pippin, The Little Mermaid, The Three Musketeers, and Li'l Abner.
