Baseball enthusiasts hope for return of sport in Rockhampton

There's a rumbling among the ranks of Rockhampton's baseball enthusiasts that could see the sport hit back in the future.
Several Australian professional baseball players are leading the push for the local baseball league to be revitalised and an exhibition match by the Queensland league has been planned for the Queen's Birthday weekend at the CQUniversity diamond.
CQUniversity General Manager for Commercial Operations Paul Lancaster said there is also a push for CQUniversity to lead the way with a home team.
"CQUniversity will offer the use of the diamond to the CQUni team that is established for the period of 12 months," Mr Lancaster said.
Mr Lancaster said the local push for baseball coincides with an international drive for the game.
"The American baseball league is currently investing millions of dollars in an Australian national league in an attempt to get baseball up and running as a major sport in Australia."
Baseball is already a major sport in Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
Mr Lancaster said the baseball diamond had not been used in a long time, therefore reports of a potential league in Rockhampton was welcome news.
