Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Bundy to host 'Girls in ICT' 

CQUniversity Bundaberg is planning to host a 'Girls in Information, Communication and Technology' conference, from 8.30am-2.30pm on Tuesday October 28.

The target audience will be female students from Years 7-12 from the Bundaberg region.

This event will open their minds to the various careers and opportunities within these industries. 

The day will consist of:

  • Guest presentations from prominent professionals in our region to discuss their industry and what they love about ICT;
  • Exciting, hands-on, interactive activities that combine technology, innovation and creativity, including multi-media, e-gaming, aviation and data programming activities.

One guest presenter will be Mayor of Bundaberg Regional Council, Cr Lorraine Pyefinch.  Cr Pyefinch will address the students and share a little about her ICT background, including the medical IT company that she formed and managed for a number of years prior to her local government role, as well as her interesting contributions to the ICT sector.
