International spotlight put on CQU Education program

Overseas universities are set to incorporate elements of Central Queensland University’s Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM).

Returning from a recent conference in Seoul, South Korea, CQU Mackay Associate Professor Bruce Knight said the BLM proved a popular reference point for future changes in the international education tertiary sector.

Educators from the USA, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea were keen to incorporate components of the degree as it embodied elements for producing more successful teachers.

.

“The teacher education program at CQU attracted attention from other countries because it emphasises all the points detailed for improvement at the conference,” he said.

.

“There was agreement that universities need to develop closer partnerships with schools and that their programs need to be more relevant. They wanted programs to contain more practical classroom experience and educate student teachers to communicate with colleagues and parents." .

“The CQU program contains all these components. Another feature of the BLM that distinguishes it from overseas programs is that is was constructed with significant input from local employing authorities, who are also involved in monitoring its implementation.” .

Associate Professor Knight believed the conference confirmed that CQU teachers were at the cutting edge of their profession.

“We fielded a lot of enquiries about CQU’s Bachelor of Learning Management, as they were able to discuss the results of putting these changes into their own university studies." .

The conference entitled “Teacher education in the Asia-Pacific region: Current Issues and Future Prospects”, allowed him to present a joint session on BLM.

Each year first-round admission offers made to Year 12 students filled the education places available in January.
