Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU reps at conference for international education specialists 

Staff members from CQU Sydney and Rockhampton campuses met up at the recent ISANA National Conference held at UNSW, Sydney.

ISANA is the representative body for international education professionals who work in student services, advocacy, teaching, and policy development.

They were joined by 2 staff members from CQU Rockhampton: Robyn Bailey and Ross Munro.

Also attending were Andrew Roberts and Denise Roberts from C Management Services Divisional Office at the Gold Coast.

The conference theme of 'Educate, Advocate Empower' was reflected in the range of presentations.

Considerable input was provided by staff from Australian Education International and the Federal departments of Education and Immigration.

There was a focus on the forthcoming changes to the ESOS code, with useful recommendations for future staff development.

Professor Ross Lehman successfully presented a paper (in the Policy into Practice stream) entitled 'This is how we do it!'.

His paper was based on primary data collected from Academic Staff Professional Development seminars held in 2005 and 2006 on CQU campuses at the Gold Coast (with Brisbane), Sydney and Melbourne, Networking was encouraged throughout the program.
