Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Record Year and Launch Success for CQU Press; CQU Staff urged to attend event this Friday after work 

CQU Press, which launches its latest project this Friday in Rockhampton, has sold more than 50,000 books this year -- a record performance generating well over $500,000 in external income for the University.

ALL STAFF IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE LAUNCH AT 5:30PM FRIDAY 1st NOVEMBER IN THE OLD SURPREME COURT BUILDING, ROCKHAMPTON. REFRESHMENTS WILL BE SERVED! (You may park on Bolsover Street and use the rear entrance of the building while renovations continue in the Mall.).

Continuing the Year of the Outback theme, CQU Press is in the middle of a statewide tour, showcasing the Hon Keith De Lacy’s first novel. Blood Stains the Wattle recreates the environment and culture of one of the most memorable and important events of Australian history – the Mt Isa Land Dispute of 1964.

The Premier, ex-premiers and deputy premiers, cabinet ministers and a fair collection of representatives from Queensland’s leading corporations attended book launches in Sydney and Brisbane this last week..

Book reviews have already appeared with photos in The Bulletin (Sydney), The Courier-Mail, The Canberra Times, The Cairns Post and in other Queensland regional newspapers. ABC radio has also conducted numerous interviews with Keith De Lacy (pictured) and David Myers.

CQU press launches its next book, Women Who Win, with Premier Beattie in Parliament House on November 6th. A re-print has been ordered even before book launch due to a large order from Angus & Robertson.

PhotoID:355 The final book launch for the year will be for The Indispensable Goat, a research project of the Queensland Museum, on November 20th.

It’s been a busy year fro CQU press with events, in Cooktown, Cairns, Townsville, Charters Towers, Mount Isa, Mouranbah, Brisbane, Sydney, Alice Springs, Catherine and Rockhampton. Almost a quarter-million CQU Press colour catalogues will be placed in Women’s Weekly, Women’s Day, Queensland Country Life, NQ Register, and Blue’s Country Magazine.
