All aboard for O'Week in Mackay

Orientation Week at CQU Mackay gets underway this Tuesday February 28. This year’s nautical theme 'All Aboard' will add an element of fun to the week, and ensure that both academic and general staff stand out from the cohort of students commencing their studies.

The aim of ‘O Week’ is to make sure that no students feel overwhelmed or go off the deep end, and although some may begin the week feeling like fish out of water, by the end of the week we expect most students will be as happy as clams.

Orientation is not just about getting the drift, it’s also about having fun. The Student Association will provide plenty of entertainment and opportunities to chill out, both on and off campus, in the form of barbecues, bands, prizes and giveaways. In particular the ‘Pirate Interfaculty Games’ is shaping up to be a lot of fun!.

The week commences with a welcome ceremony and entertainment in the CQCM Theatre followed by a host of informative and entertaining sessions over the course of the week. All sessions are designed to make sure the coast is clear for the students as they commence their studies in early March.

The students will be assisted by their personal Lookout (mentor), who will guide them through the first term and answer questions as they arise; but 'smooth seas do not make skillful sailors’ (African Proverb), so the inevitable ups and downs of university life will only add to their experiences.

All Aboard!.
